The Essential Needs Transportation Program was developed in 1990 in Indianapolis, Indiana
and presented in Washington, DC. at the National Council on Aging that same year, as a low-cost
alternate means of transportation.
The basis for the development of this program is to provide transportation for medical appointments to senior citizens, thereby enhancing their continued
wellness and independence.
The program utilizes volunteers and staff drivers to transport senior citizens to medical appointments or other necessary services.
